This Spring Pretty City Staging was approached with an opportunity to assist in the raising of funds for Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity projects. Previously, Pretty City offered staging services for the sale of a home where the proceeds went directly back into home-building projects in the community. At the chance to help with this again, we gave a resounding YES and began to brainstorm ideas on how to best showoff this home’s new makeover.
In 2017, The Multicare Health System donated a few properties to the Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity that were not being actively used. While the subject properties weren’t suitable for Habitat homebuyers, their purpose actually served a much larger community goal. The value of these homes- which are restored through volunteer work and services to be sold for market value- mean that the profit can fund eleven future affordable home-builds. Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity has dubbed this donation “the gift that launched a neighborhood.”
The goal of staging is to create a vision for buyers to see themselves relaxing, eating, playing, and living in any given space. For this Craftsman home, bright light filters all throughout the area and sets a welcoming tone. We focused on providing an approachable modern feel to highlight the detailed restoration and updates the property was upgraded with during the building process.
There is a balance of making the home feel contemporary and modern while still retaining the value that original woodwork adds to the home’s character. We maintained this original char, by utilizing furniture that livens up the space- fresh plants and bright whites- playing off the original coloring of the refinished floors and fixtures. A new roof, electrical, plumbing, energy-efficient insulation and windows allow this home to continue standing the test of time.
Pretty City was honored to participate in a project that funds community growth and continuing a tradition of affordable homeownership in Tacoma.
